Stipends

If you are accepted into the Ottawa-Carleton Chemistry Institute you will receive a stipend competitive with other institutions in Ontario. All students receiving this stipend are expected to act as teaching assistants for the fall and winter terms, which amounts to 8-10 hours per week (usually two afternoons/week as a laboratory demonstrator).

The Institute offers entrance scholarships to those students who have excellent qualifications but are not holders of an external award. These scholarships cover the cost of Canadian tuition fees and additional funds in exceptional cases. If this is your situation, you will be nominated automatically for such supplements; no additional input from the student is required.

Scholarships

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) is the national instrument for making strategic investments in Canada's capability in science and technology. An arm's-length federal agency, it is responsible for promoting and supporting research in the natural sciences and engineering, other than the health sciences.

The Council's mission statement clearly defines its purpose:

"The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council fosters the discovery and application of knowledge through the support of university research and the training of scientists and engineers. The Council promotes the use of this knowledge to build a strong national economy and improve the quality of life of all Canadians.
NSERC fulfils its mission by awarding grants and scholarships through a competitive process and by building partnerships among universities, governments and the private sector."
