March 5, 2007 - A new technique has been implemented on the Bruker AVANCE 400 with sample changer to help improve sample throughput and efficiency. The DEPTQ 135 technique is now available for selection in the list of experiments. This technique has all of the information content of a standard 13C spectrum plus all of the information of a standard DEPT 135 spectrum. In a DEPTQ 135 spectrum the quaternary and methylene carbons are antiphase with respect to the methine and methyl carbons. I suggest that you use this technique in place of a standard 13C spectrum as it will almost always avoid the need to run both a standard 13C spectrum and a standard DEPT 135 spectrum. For a comparison of standard 13C, standard DEPT 135 and DEPTQ 135 spectra for 10% ethylbenzene in CDCl3, click here. February 3, 2006 - The undergraduate chemistry laboratory will receive a state-of-the-art Bruker AVANCE 300 NMR spectrometer with an auto-tuning broadband probe. This program will be able to handle the processing of all of your Bruker NMR data. October 6, 2005 - A new button called "Do All Experiments" has been added to the command panel on the Bruker AVANCE 300 spectrometer. This program allows a user to set up and run all of the common experiments very easily and works as follows: After locking and shimming, click the "Do All Experiments" button. You will be asked to input a name for the data set in which you would like to collect the data. You will then be asked how many scans you wish to take for your proton spectrum, as well as the upper and lower frequency limits (in ppm). This information is used to set the receiver gain and spectral width for the proton and any of the 2D acquisitions. You will then be asked if you would like to run a COSY, HMQC, carbon, DEPT-135, NOESY or HMBC spectrum. You can answer either "y" for yes or "n" for no. For each of the experiments you answer "y", you will be asked how much time (in hours) you wish to spend on it. If you answer "y" for the NOESY spectrum you will also be asked to input a mixing time (in seconds). All of the experiments will be set up in consecutive experiment numbers of the data set you specified. The total experiment time will be calculated and you will be asked whether or not you wish to run the experiments immediately. If you answer "y", the experiments will be started. If you answer "n", the experiments will be setup and you can alter any parameters you wish and start the experiments later with the "multizg" command. Please try this new feature and report any bugs or suggestions to the NMR Lab staff.
