UAG delegation

September 2009

On September 2, 3 and 4, the University of the French West Indies and Guiana (UAG), which has campuses in Guadeloupe, Martinique, and French Guiana, hosted a delegation from the University of Ottawa that included André Lalonde, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Gabriel Blouin-Demers, Andrea Martinez, Director of the School of International Development and Global Studies from the Faculty of Social Science, and Professor Stéphane Bernard.

The objective of this visit, which brought the delegation to the UAG campuses in Guadeloupe and Martinique, was to negotiate a student mobility partnership meant to allow undergraduate students from the faculties of Science and Social Science to spend a semester in one of five UAG campuses (in Guadeloupe, Martinique or Guiana), as well as allow French students from the UAG to come to the University to study in science or social science.

On the long term, both universities hope to establish a continued collaboration in graduate studies and in research, centered on specific scientific areas such as tropical ecology and international development.

The delegation, which was accompanied by Pascal Saffache, President of the UAG, and his team, was warmly welcomed, at a reception organized by the mayor of Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloup, Mr. Jacques Bangou.
